Helcraw Water (PVT) LTD entered partnership with City of Harare in the provision of Smart Water Metering system (Digital Billing), Rehabilitation of Water Supply Infrastructure (Distribution Pipe Network) and the Rehabilitation of existing Morton Jaffray Water Treatment Plant.
THE PROJECT OBJECTIVES
(1) To reduce Non-Revenue Water (NRW) from 60% to 35%. (Due to a high number of meters on estimates as opposed to specific readings, high percentage of pipe bursts, high number of unmetered customers).
(2) To increase revenue collection efficiency from 48% to 90% (Ballooning legacy debt, very long Postpaid billing cycles average 37 days).
(3) To increase water production capacity from a daily average of 350MLD to 520MLD at Morton Jaffray Water Treatment Plant.
(4) To increase water supply coverage from 48% to 75%.
TARGET
1. Installation of 650,000 smart prepaid water meters in Harare and Greater Harare (Ruwa, Epworth, Chitungwiza and Norton)
2. Rehabilitation of 500km of water distribution network by replacing old Asbestos Cement (AC) and steel pipes which are beyond their lifespan with new PVC pipes which are durable and resistant to corrosion which pose no health hazards.
3. Rehabilitation of the water treatment plant to increase water production capacity from a daily average of 350MLD to 520MLD at Morton Jaffray Water Treatment Plant.
